BUILDING DRONE TECH WITH MULTIDISCIPLINARY APTITUDE
Ir. Narendran Ramasenderan, the Senior Lecturer at APU’s School of Engineering and leader of the Centre of Research and Development of loT (CREDIT) is at the forefront of aerial drone projects. With his involvement, his
expertise and guidance have led to the successful development of firefighting and flood assistance drones. which are now ready for demonstration and field testing with trained novices. Under Ir. Naren’s leadership. CREDIT has earned numerous national and international recognitions, positioning APU’s engineerin, graduates as pioneers in the drone industry.
As APU’s first drone pilot endorsed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), . Naren is committed to advancing the integration of robotics and autonomous systems in APU’s engineering curriculum. He has acquired the necessary Remote Pilot Certificate of Competency (RCoC-B) to comply with aviation laws and enable the training of more drone pilots at APU. By doing so, CREDIT members and upcoming graduates possess the relevant skills to excel in the drone industry. Ir. Naren aims to further enhance their drone solution by incorporating swarm capabilities and advanced AI features, leveraging his expertise in industrial automation and autonomous machines.
Established in 2016, CREDIT operates within APU’s School of Computing, School of Engineering, and School of Technology, and has played a significant role in training and equipping over 10,000 students. The centre serves as a tested and prototype hub for industry-academic partnerships, with projects in collaboration with multinational companies. By integrating these projects into students’ studies, CREDIT ensures that APU’s engineering students stay up-to-date with industry trends and equipped with the necessary skills for employability. The multidisciplinary nature of the projects fosters cohesive and diverse teams, enabling students to develop problem-solving abilities, resilience, and the capability to perform well under stress, making them highly valued by employers.
