After the success of the 2018 edition, AWS HackDays came back in year 2019 with an exciting new challenge titled “Hack for Good”, a hackathon journey made for South-East Asia Builders eager to have a positive impact on their communities with the power of technology. This year provided the opportunity to accelerate South-East Asia digitalization while bringing new solutions around four topics: HealthTech, AgriTech, Smart City and FinTech.
Using Amazon Web Services, 1500 applications were submitted from South East Asia Region (Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia) to showcase products demonstrating skills in either Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, IoT, Data Analytics or Modern Applications. Malaysia itself witnessed around 200 application submissions during the qualifying round mostly from the industrial sector.
Alongside with other participants, SupremeTech team comprising mobile technology & data analytics students from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation also participated in AWS HackDays qualifying round under the mentorship of their lecturer Mr. Amad Arshad through School of Technology & APU CREDIT platform.
Participating APU students (Edwin Chan, Vishant Sukumaran & Ivan Tham) submitted an iOS Mobile Application titled “AllergyBot – A Smart Food Allergy Personalized Assistant” under HealthTech track incorporating the usage of below AWS technologies.

Against all odds and strong challenges posted by industry-driven participations, APU became the only university to emerge as one of Top 5 teams among 200 teams shortlisted by AWS HackDays Organizing committee. Demo day session in AWS Kuala Lumpur office witnessed closely fought final round with two teams including APU called up for the final interview and ASTRO team with Park Smartly prototype eventually edging out to represent Malaysia for AWS Hackathon 2019 in Singapore.
